Polychromatic Light Therapy (PLT) refers to the use of multiple wavelengths (colors) of light to stimulate biological processes inside the body.
PLT is delivered via light emitting diodes (LEDs) pads placed on the patient’s body that emit infrared, red and blue radiation. The light can penetrate to different depths inside the biological tissue, depending on the wavelength, where they get naturally absorbed in cells.
The absorbed light can stimulate the production of Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP), used as an energy source for cells. It can also increase the release of Nitric Oxide (NO), promoting the blood circulation and the health of your blood vessels.
PLT has been shown to stimulate collagen production, which has a major role in skin health, tissue repair and wound healing.
Polychromatic Light Therapy has also been reported to show positive results for patients suffering from:
- Joint pain
- Inflammation and swelling
- Bone fractures
- Peripheral neuropathy
- Tight muscles
- Skin conditions
- Mood disorders
The therapy is a very relaxing and soothing experience that will also help you reduce your stress level and improve the quality of your sleep.
